Storytelling shapes our understanding of the world and each other. It’s powerful. And it demands respect.
Recentred Africa exists because we know we must wield that power responsibly.
Recentred Africa was born from a shared, deep-seated frustration.
A frustration with the relentless tide of simplistic, often damaging, narratives about Africa - stories that flatten complexity, ignore agency, and perpetuate harmful stereotypes. We saw the ‘poverty spectacle’, the ‘benevolent outsider’ narrative, the glossing over of inconvenient truths.
We knew, fundamentally, that a more ethical, more human, more truthful way wasn't just possible. It was - it is - absolutely necessary.

More Than Stories. A Shift in Perspective.
Our mission cuts deeper than just producing content. We are committed to:
Crafting Exceptional Narratives: Producing outstanding, ethically grounded stories (visual, written, audio) across the African continent that illuminate the diverse realities, resilience, and innovation of its people and cultures. We seek depth, not just documentation.
Transforming the Process: Actively challenging and changing how stories are gathered and shared. This means moving decisively away from extractive, top-down methods towards genuine Listen. Gather. Weave. – a process built on profound listening, collaboration, and an unwavering respect for the people whose stories we are privileged to help tell.
We are not interested in being just another vendor fulfilling a brief. We seek to be partners in understanding, collaborators in change. Forget the tired tropes; let's uncover the richer, truer narratives, together.
