the lab

This is where things get really interesting: the Recentred Africa Lab is our playground.

We're driven by a relentless curiosity about people - how we think, feel, and connect. Our Lab is our space for psycho-social exploration, where we delve into the human elements that make stories impactful, participatory, and transformative.

So at the Lab, we:

  • Investigate human narratives: We study the ways stories influence attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. We're fascinated by how a well-told story can shift perspectives and foster empathy.

  • Explore participatory methodologies: We tinker with approaches that actively involve communities in the storytelling process, ensuring their voices are authentically represented.

  • Foster community engagement: We collaborate with communities and target demographics to understand their unique social dynamics, traditions, and values, threading these insights into the narratives we weave.

  • Research narrative impact: We're data nerds when it comes to understanding the psycho-social impact of stories. We explore how narratives can inspire action, build bridges, and drive social change.

  • We're constantly refining, testing, and exploring the boundaries of storythreading, to make it even more effective and more accessible for communities across Africa - and, perhaps, worldwide.

  • We believe everyone has a story to tell. Our Lab develops and runs participatory programs that empower individuals and communities to become storytellers (and story threaders) themselves. Workshops, training, on-the-job learning, fellowships – we’re building a grassroots narrative revolution, one thread at a time.

  • We look into into the impact of different storytelling approaches, digging into the data to understand what resonates, what motivates, and what truly makes a difference.

Whether you need a professionally crafted film, a community-powered storytelling campaign, or an experimental narrative to push creative boundaries, Recentred Africa is ready to embark on a journey with you.

So, what’ll it be?
